“The Inspection”

Same clipboard. Same frown. Different hat.

Previously: Utility approved. Permit stamped. Rails, modules, and 61 pounds of golden retriever assistance are on the roof. The array is built — the AHJ still has to see it work, and stop working, before Doris flips a single breaker.

Make the roof safe to touch

Dale will not put a probe on anything until the system is shut down in the right order. Tap the devices in sequence. Orange means energized. Blue means verified safe.

  • Tap Doris on the porch first — interior loads off, nobody opens the fridge mid-test.
  • Open the AC disconnect. The blade swings, the inverter drops off the grid.
  • Hit the rapid shutdown initiator. NEC 690.12 gives it 30 seconds to bring rooftop DC conductors to 30 V or less. The countdown is compressed for television.
  • Then, and only then, let Dale probe the AC terminals and the DC terminals. Probing a live conductor is how you fail an inspection in front of a homeowner.
  • Wrong order costs Safety, and Kenneth will say something about it.
